Worship at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood is centered on our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we come to know the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Both Old and New Testament scriptures are read, a relevant and inspiring sermon is preached, hymns and songs are sung that praise God, and all come before God in prayer. Communion is offered on the first Sunday of the month to all who believe. The sacrament of Baptism is administered at any of our services. Visitors and new members are welcome and encouraged to participate in worship services, discipleship and mission programs.
These services offer the opportunity to participate in a traditional style of Presbyterian worship that include entering God’s presence, listening to God’s word, and responding to God’s call. We enter God’s presence with a hymn of praise, a prayer of confession, an assurance of God’s pardon for our sins, and the passing of the peace. We hear God’s word in lessons from the Old and New Testament and listen to a sermon that translates God’s word for application in our everyday lives. We respond to God’s call to live out what we have heard as we confess our faith through the recitation of the Apostle’s creed, give our offering to God for the work of His church in both our local community and throughout the world, sing a hymn of dedication, and receive a benediction that sends us forth to spread the good news. Our choir, accompanied by organ, piano, and occasional orchestral instruments, brings outstanding choral music into each of our traditional services that enriches and deepens our sense of God’s presence with us in worship.
This service offers the opportunity to participate in a contemporary style of Presbyterian worship that includes a praise band with inspirational contemporary Christian music, greeting each other through the passing of the peace, a time for prayer and supplication, a participative lesson for our children, a biblically based message for adults of all ages designed to inspire and connect us to God, an offering given to God for His mission being done in the world through us, a closing charge to go out and live what we have heard, and a closing worship song. Communion is offered each month by intinction, a more personal method used for the sacrament where participants dip the bread into the wine. Our praise band brings rich and contemporary Christian music to each service that connects us to God’s presence in our lives through their heartfelt music ministry. Our youth ministry has a visible presence in our contemporary service and is actively engaged with younger adults seeking answers in an era when so many questions go unanswered.
Music is an inherent part of worship at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood. The traditional services have a large choir led by Dr. Todd Miller, Director of Music. The contemporary service has a praise band that leads congregants in a ministry of contemporary Christian music. More information can be found under the Ministries/Music tab on the church’s web site.
